Bird Control - Problem

There is no doubt that birds are one of the most cherished families of the animal kingdom, contributing to our enjoyment of the countryside and adding an element of colour to otherwise drab railway stations and urban parks.

Birds do however cause huge problems and significant hazards when they live in close association with man. Pigeons, starlings and gulls present a threat to the health of people entering infested areas, as their droppings and unhygienic behavioural characteristics make them most unsuitable neighbours.

Bird droppings can contain many bacteria harmful to man including Salmonella. Others can lead to serious medical conditions such as Ornithosis and allergic alveolitis.

These birds are also associated with many species of biting insects such as lice, mites, ticks and fleas. The bites from these insects can cause very unpleasant reactions in humans.

Pigeon "Guano" is extremely slippery, especially in wet conditions. This can lead to serious injuries and expensive compensation claims for organisations that do not act to protect the public and their staff from such hazards.

Birds can also cause distress through their noise and the unpleasant smell of their droppings. Some large birds such as gulls may physically attack humans in certain circumstances.

Corporate image, which has taken effort, time and money to build, is often damaged by birds especially in retail situations, with droppings disfiguring costly corporate signage.
